Action is more powerful than the spoken word

Once the super chief of the company was coming on an official visit from the corporate office to the factory. The preparation was in full swing starting from the Powerpoint slides, demos & all the speeches.

When the boss finally arrived, he was first taken on a guided tour of the facility. At the warehouse, he bent down swiped his palm on the floor & checked his hand for dust. He tried to wipe it off with his other hand, not satisfied he asked for a box of tissues. Three people ran to the other end of the warehouse to pick up the same tissue box.

The boss did not say anything else, the guided tour continued from where it had paused.
This issue was never discussed in any of the meetings that happened later in the day.

But the effect was that within 24 hours of the incident, the housekeeping process was reviewed, upgraded. More equipments was better cleanliness was ordered and within a week the warehouse was looking much better.
It was not that the warehouse was in bad shape, some dust is expected with the forklift truck going out & in of the warehouse.
It was only that the performance bar of the people managing it was raised by the leader who communicated with action & it was louder than any spoken word.
