I have been part of performance appraisal across various companies. It is usually a standard format. Most of the performance measures used is more or less the same, maybe the language & the emphasis may differ.
But for me one performance measure stands out, which I have seen in one company I worked for.
The parameter is “ Did the individual ask his/her colleague for help or consult others?â€
This is the most difficult thing for people to do, which is asking for help or an opinion. Many a times this is seen as a weakness.
But I see that as a strength. It is always good to ask an opinion, when you are sending that important proposal or replying to a customer escalation.
However one area where I resist to ask for help is when I get lost while driving. I over rely on my map apps on my phone rather than stopping by and asking for help.
This anyways is outside the scope of a company’s performance appraisal!!
