I have seen this with many leaders, they are able to remember names of people who were two or three levels below them in hierarchy. Even if they do not remember, they are able to connect by some event which relates to you.

I have also seen this with school teachers too. I once went to my school alumni after 15 years. I was surprised that one of my teacher recognised me.

Another teacher did not recognise me and when I did introduce myself, she was able to recollect incidents related to me during school.

Remembering names in the current environment is big challenge given that teams are virtual and spread across the globe.
